Engineered, wide plank, reclaimed, antique heart pine from Old Mississippi Brick & Heart Pine puts a new angle on an age-old issue. For hundreds of years homeowners have wanted the elegant look of wide plank flooring, but have also wanted a product that offers stability and ease of maintenance that to date has been unavailable. Because wood floors are a natural product, they retain and shed moisture through the natural variations in humidity in a home. This causes wood flooring to expand and contract through the seasons, which may result in boards developing cups and cracks between the planks. To some this is accepted as part of the ownership experience. To others this is the reason they have avoided wood floors. Engineered flooring is the result of technology meeting the need for stability, along with affordability, versatility and environmental responsibility.
Engineered, reclaimed, antique heart pine flooring bonds a thick wear layer of this very rare species to a strong, stable Birch plywood substrate. The substrate has layers of veneers running perpendicular to those above and below it. This makes for an extremely stable floor that is subject to minimal expansion and contraction with humidity changes. This also allows for an unmatched versatility in installation methods. Old Mississippi Brick & Heart Pine's Engineered Flooring can be glued down on either a cured concrete or wood subfloor, nailed down, or installed by gluing the boards together and floating them over wood or concrete. This makes it the ideal floor to be installed over radiant heat.
Engineered flooring is the perfect product to use when applying flooring directly to a concrete slab.

Engineered, reclaimed, antique heart pine flooring by Old Mississippi Brick & Heart Pine is more affordable than solid antique heart pine flooring as it uses a 4mm wear layer of heart pine rather than 3/4". Compared to installing solid flooring, which is nailed down then sanded and finished, pre-finished engineered flooring is easier to install and offers significant savings to the homeowner. This also brings this product to a new level of environmental responsibility. There is minimal onsite product waste during installation when installed as a pre-finished product. The finishing processes and fumes generated are done in a controlled safe manufacturing environment and not in your home.
Old Mississippi Brick & Heart Pine Engineered Flooring is 9/16" thick and ranges in width from 3" to 12". Our Superior Engineered floors are 1" thick and go up to 15" wide. It is precision molded, graded, packaged and shipped to you by experienced flooring craftsmen that take pride in every square foot of flooring we produce.
If remodeling, a pre-finished floor is excellent for expediency and limiting clean-up efforts. Once the floor is installed, the effort is completed. There is no sanding and no dust. Traditional finishing efforts take return workmen visits of up to 4 days.
We do offer Engineered floors unfinished for those who desire a custom color.
