Tom Green III, President of Old Mississippi Brick & Heart Pine Company, grew up in West Point, MS. His father, Tom Green Jr., owned a grain elevator. During the off-season, Tom Green Jr. and his employees demolished old buildings and sold the materials. At 15, Tom III's after school job was cleaning reclaimed brick from the old buildings that he helped his father demolish.
"Some people like to golf or go fishing in their spare time, but I love to tear down old buildings."
- Tom Green Jr. 1975
Tom III attended Mississippi State University. To pay for college, he worked reclaiming and selling railroad ties for gardens. He also spent his school breaks remodeling an 1884 family home using reclaimed antique heart pine and brick. His strong and conscientious work ethic did not go unnoticed. After college, Tom went into the meat brokerage business. While selling to grocery stores and calling on vendors he learned that business relationships are based on mutual trust and respect.
Prior to founding Old Mississippi Brick and Heart Pine Company, Tom worked in the brick distribution business and in the home construction industry. Tom credits his father, Tom Jr., for his strong moral character, work ethic, and attention to detail. Tom tries to instill this same focus in all of his employees at Old Mississippi Brick & Heart Pine.
The company currently employs more than 50 people. Through 2015, the company is reclaiming materials from a large textile mill that it purchased in Southern Virginia. This particular site will yield more than 3 million board feet of heart pine beams, 5 million board feet of heart pine decking, 1 million board feet of maple, and 6 million brick.
Tom is always on the lookout for large, old facilities to ensure a constant supply of quality materials. If you know of a facility in your area that may be for sale, please contact us.
